thought of the day: ppl often say to not scratch the bottom of the cdr cause it makes the cd skip and in worse cases unreadable. that really makes it sound like it's okay to scratch the top. but i'm telling you, that's worse. the data is actually stored on that top layer of foil like film. if you scratch that, you can wave goodbye to your data. while scratches on the bottom just bend the laser from the cd player incorrectly. a bit of sanding w/ one of those cd sanding kits can fix the cd in no time.

sorry about no update yesterday. was busy unpacking. gotta thank belldandy for giving me a ride home from the airport. (^_^x)

watched several new hi-res clips from Maven Networks and found this site: Eggwork Productions. Check out their videos. I especially liked Who's Your Daddy? available on atomfilms.

thought of the day: you know those dumpling like thingies (in chinese it's called soup balls) where it's sweet stuff (like red bean) wrapped inside dough. is there an official english word that describes it?

last post before i head back to berkeley on monday. one more year and it's game over. life is scary.

i had a mistake in yesterday's post. apparently anbu and animeone no longer are in cooperation to fansub naruto. i found this out after seeing animeone released the same naruto episodes with a different file size. why they broke up, i still have yet to find out. probably some group incompatibilities and they thought both would be better off fansubbing seperately.

so the manager at office depot was a jerk today. i always thought the montebello office depot was nice... until i met THIS manager. there was a UPS deal today. APC 500VA for $30 with some rebates. that was the price shown online and i've never had a problem getting office depot to price match their own online store price before. but this manager was being such a b*tch that all she could say was, sorry, but we're not honoring the online price because of some extra mail in rebate. i told her i didn't want to deal with the extra rebate and she states that i should just order online (which i didnt want to because of shipping fee and the fact that i'm leaving for berkeley tomorrow). so i kept on arguing that they're breaking company policy by not price matching (and this was to their own store) and she keeps on saying that they won't honor the price. oh yah, this was before i found out that she was the manager. i then asked if i could speak to the manager and she said she was the manager on duty. she suggested that if i had any complaints to call corporate and deal with them. so i took that advice and asked for her name and the # to call. going to try a different Office Depot tomorrow. i really want to get my computer on a UPS before i leave cause this room's been having brown outs lately.

horacio and ungsunghero dropped by today to see me off before i leave for berkeley. such good friends. we chatted, watched and made fun of olympic athletes (i think ungsunghero had a word to combine olympic athletes), transferred *cough* i mean "borrowed" movies, ungsunghero attempted to sell horacio a speaker set and suceeded, then finally some more naruto PS2!! i was getting murdered in the beginning. with horacio and his practice i lost continuously for at least 8 matches. but in the end, i made my come back. i was on a killing streak and i think we tied in the # of wins/loss.

so while chatting, horacio brings up that microsoft is releasing a new version of windows xp to the asian markets. it's called Microsoft Windows XP Starter Edition. supposedly selling for US$40 and the reason is to fight against piracy (since the piracy in the asian market seems to be extremely high). i find it really funny that they call this a feature:

  • Simplified task management. With Windows XP Starter Edition, first-time home PC users can have up to three programs and three windows per program running concurrently. Further simplification of the operating system includes the display resolution set to 800x600 maximum and no support for PC-to-PC home networking, sharing printers across a network or more advanced features such as the ability to establish multiple user accounts on a single PC.

when i learn english, these were called limitations. so we joked about what actually defines a program? windows itself loads a bunch of background services. so we were thinking, someone could load aim and only talk to 2 ppl at the same time (3 window per application limit: 2 chat windows + 1 buddy list). but wait! there's more. when u want to send the person a file or direct connect, u can only do that if you're chatting with 1 person.

thought of the day: did you know that costco sold 100pk of first class stamps ($0.37) for $36.50? though you're not saving much, probably the best deal around.

naruto 95-96 was released today by anbu/animeone. the episode was awesome! if you're a naruto fan and you haven't seen this yet, GO GET IT!!!
