09.24.2005 - thought of the day: so i was watching Kingdom of Heaven (pretty good movie, though not much really happened, but it was fun), and when they found water in that dry city, these little boys put a toy boat on the aqueduct as it floated downstream. it brought back memories of when i was little and we would make paper boats and whenever our parents watered the plants or washed the car, we would put these boats on the streams and follow it as it flows downhill into the gutter. haha.
sorry about not updating last nite. went to sleep @ 3:30am the nite before and had to get up @ 7:20 because of our company meeting @ safeco field the next day. so yah, when i came got back, i sorta hit the sack immediately. slept from 7:30pm to 11:30am this morning. 16hrs of sleep = good!
the company meeting was fun. got to see what the rest of microsoft was doing. some of the new products coming out look pretty good. finally got to see bill g and steve b. didnt meet them in person, but i got to see them on stage. you've probably heard of the clip that bill gates did with napoleon dynamite. i was going to link it earlier, but ifilm and the original blogger were instructed to take it down because: Apparently, there are some concerns with the copyright status of this spoof. We've removed it from the site, at least for the time being. // Unfortunately, I had to take the video down. Apparently, the studio owns the copyright on the video, not Microsoft. They would keep it online if they were allowed to, but the only reason the studios do these deals is if MS agrees to show it to limited audiences. Personally, I think that's ridiculous, but I like the access I get for playing nice, so down it goes.
i got my electric bill yesterday... and i was shocked to see the total: $159.44!!! i was like wth is going on. i meaning running 2 computers and not being home 1/2 the day shouldn't be generating this kind of bill... or does it? haha, i've never payed for electricity, but hearing from my dad's complaints, his bill including A/C during the summer only sorta hits $120 tops. so i read into the details of my bils so more. turns out this was 1.5 months and for the month of 8/18 - 9/16, the total was only $34.65 with the 1.5months coming to a total of $47.34. as i read on, there was a $6.10 setup fee thingy and a $106.00 deposit. that's a pretty heavy deposit... considering the amount i pay/month, that deposit covers over 3 months! i received another letter today saying how a review of your account indicates the necessity of obtaining an initial or additional security deposit in the amount of $106.00. sigh... my credit shouldn't be that bad...
cdmcc invited me to watch corpse bride today. the movie was good and fun. was a bit short tho. only 76mins and we sorta missed the 1st 5mins of it. wo! johnny depp played the voice of victor!?!?! haha, for the longest time, i thought it was adrien brody. they also had him do a scene playing a beautiful piano piece! hahahahah! any way, it's a fun movie and you should watch it.
my dad's been having problems opening his old ms works files. he was using ms works 4.0 or 5.0 and apparently the newest word 2003 doesn't support converting these ancient formats. after consulting with the office group (since i have direct access to their mailing lists), i finally got a solution: Works converters for Word. just follow the instructions in the text document and you'll be able to get it to work.
i watched finaly fantasy 7: advent children sometime back. the graphics is amazing and the storyline was really fun. tifa in the game looked cute. tifa in the movie looks HOT! as tera or fuzzywuzzy said, tifa in advent children is basically rinoa from ff8, which i'd have to agree. did i mention how pretty it was? as someone who's never really played ff7, i was able to enjoy it alot, so don't fear that you haven't played the game cause you don't really need to.
several weeks ago, i went to watch The Exorcism of Emily Rose with cdmcc and elizabeth. the exorcist was a horrible boring movie. i think i fell asleep watching it and didnt bother finish watching it. but this emily rose story was actually done really well. nothing too scary and it is rated only pg-13.
i rewatched the ending of batman begins. movie is so good!!! if you haven't seen the movie, STOP READING THIS PARAGRAPH IMMEDIATELY! hopefully this won't spoil anything for you if you've decided to keep on reading: (batman starts walking away) lt. gordon says, "I never said thank you ..." (batman turns around) and says, "... and you'll never have to." so powerful!!! you'll also have to imagine the amazing soundtrack behind it too which i can't really type out.
thanks to cari for donating this article: Siblings, 13 and 14, enter Cal as transfer students. im wondering if i should feel happy or pity for them. it's a great accomplishment, but they're barely teenagers... sounds like some traditional chinese parenting was involved, if you know what i mean.

got this article from /. : The digital Dark Age. the article is quite interesting and does bring up big problem. in the past 10 years, we've went from 5.25" floppies to 3.5" floppies, to zip disks, to cdrs, to dvdrs, and then now there's hddvd and blu-ray coming out. i'm already seeing tons of computers w/o floppies. floppies, the good old pkunzip days. haha. i guess many problems are solved by backward compatibilities, but how bout one day when discs are no longer in style? 1. how do we convert our archives of documents and images to support the latest formats? 2. how do we make sure it's still readable? 3. how do we transfer them onto the new tech? It is 2045, he suggests, and his grandchildren are exploring the attic of his old house when they come across a CD-ROM and a letter, which explains that the disk contains a document that provides directions to obtaining the family fortune. The children are excited. "But they've never seen a CD before - except in old movies - and, even if they found a suitable disk drive, how will they run the software necessary to interpret the information on the disk? How can they read my obsolete digital document?"
got this link from /. : gameman:play it. pretty kewl jumbo size gameboy.

got this article from /. : Toshiba touts fuel cell-equipped MP3 players. that mp3 player looks pretty small for a fuel cell mp3 player, but does that mean we'll be carrying around bottles of methanol around? i wonder if it smells good.
got these links from /. : Skyping Your Cellphone and IM Fone - Bluetooth based device allows using cell phone to make calls via IM. This actually sounds pretty amazing. Apparently this “imFONE” USB device allows you to use your existing cellphone as a VoIP phone. You simply plug this thing into your PC’s USB port, pair it via Bluetooth to your phone, and you’re ready to go.
got this article from yahoo: British Office Compiles List of Odd Names. "My all-time favorites are Abraham Thunderwolff and Freke Dorothy Fluck Lane," she said.
