thought of the day: i finally found a good reason why you might want to take a shower at night: so the next morning when you wake up, all you have to do is slip into clothes and go out. or if you're the type that wears normal day clothes to bed, just wake up and go out. this gives me an extra 20-30 mins of sleep time. ;p but i'm still in favor of morning showers. helps wake me up.

thought of the day: so i was @ blockbuster the other day and the women in front of us was looking for her blockbuster card. besides the fact that she couldn't find her blockbuster card, a quick count reveals that she has over 50 cards in there. there were about 10 card pockets and each pocket had about 3 cards in it. then there was the cash pockets which were also filled w/ cards. and you wonder why u cant find your blockbuster card. well that really wasn't my thought, but an observation. what i was thinking, women have purses and inside the purse they have wallets bigger than men! i'm currently in search of a bigger wallet (mine currently only holds 6 cards; anymore and it won't fold close). but if you think about it. 1 atm card, 1 credit card, 1 drivers license, 1 medical card and that's already 4 slots gone. dont even start talking about extra atm cards, credit cards, club cards (at least one for supermarket and one for costco), gift cards, insurance cards (car, medical, etc), membership cards (fitness center), rewards cards (one for each theater company, etc), and the list goes on. i've have at least 30+ cards i just stack away somewhere and when you really need it or get to use it, is when you forget to bring it out with you. and it's not even your fault. you're at work and someone calls you and asks if you wanted to go shopping and then a movie. you agree only to realize when you're shopping, you forgot to bring your gift card and at the theaters you forgot your student id and rewards card. they really need to make smaller cards or put them all into one or something.

thought of the day: did you ever wonder why telephones are duplex (audio can go both ways simultaneously) but speakerphones are not? u might want to click on the duplex link to get a better definition. speakerphones, if you've used it at all is half-duplex (audio can only go one way at any given moment). if you've never tried, try speaking into the speaker phone when someone is talking, their audio is immediately cut off and you won't hear anything. i'm not exactly sure why, but it seems weird that since fones are capable of full-duplex, why cant they implement that into a speakerphone system?

thought of the day: have you heard of I.C.E. (in case of emergency)? well if you haven't, you might wanna read up on the previous link or at snopes. quite interesting. there was a debate in our distribution list about if we should just follow this or if some changes should be made to make it easier to be accessed, what if your fone doesn't allow duplicates, do you really want to see "incoming call: ice", etc. one of the topics that emerged from this was the idea of different emergency #s in different countries. why is that? why does usa use 911 and britain use 999. why does india use 102 etc. worldwide emergency #s listed here. i thought it may have been because of cultural and language differences making some #s easier to remember than others in different cultures. turns out i was quite wrong. the reason why england chose 999 was because back in the days with rotary fones, 9 was the last # to be reached, so it made it hard to dial 999 by mistake. i thought that was quite interesting.

thought of the day: i was eating a burger at some fancy burger joint before watching broken flowers, and i was thinking, while holding my burger, that i didnt really want to put my burger down. but i wanted to eat fries, so i had to use my other hand (god forbid, j/k ;p). anyway, i was trying to reason why i didn't want to put my burger down and the reason i came up with was because burgers are very loose food and once you start eating, losing the grip may not be the best idea cause the next time you try to pick it up, things will fall everywhere, expecially if it's a big burger stuff with layers of stuff. so i think it's become a habit of mine and maybe others to be reluctant to let go of a burger once you start eating it. then again, there's those who use a fork and knive for burgers.

so you may have noticed a lack of updates for almost a week. reasoning is i moved into a new place an the free *cough* wifi here is horrible. i finally found a corner that in one room that gives me 2 bars. as for getting my 'own' internet, i've already called comcast, but they wont have time till 8/18 (next thursday). it's also kewl because ms employees get a discount with comcast: $25/mo for 4mbps/384kbps or $35/mo for 6mbps/768kbps. of course i went for the higher speed. think ms and comcast has some partnership going on where comcast dvr machines are running ms software.

so, my move-in was successful. my furniture got delivered. apartment is still a mess and boxes everywhere. you can check out my dotphoto album here: 2005-08-09 new apartment. the patio and storage room pix are missing because it was night time and it wouldn't have been pretty anyway.

did i mention my leg got more bug bites? it's practically covered with bug bites. i finally found some man-fa oil yesterday and applied it. i also went out to purchase a insect repellent spray today and hopefully i wont get any more bites. i've killed 3 of these nasty ticks already and one of they had my blood in it (it was bright red).

so i've been making a list of stuff i need to buy. one of the things on my list is a vacuum cleaner. i was @ costco looking @ vacuum cleaners and was then it hit me. i'm going to get a Roomba.

also if you noticed when you were checking out my new apartment pix, i got some memory foam products. my mom calls me the nite before i move in telling me that i need a pillow. i was @ bed bath and beyond looking at pillows and notice a memory foam section. these pillows ranged from $20-150. wasn't really sure if it was worth it to get a cheap one, but i didn't want to spend that much money on a pillow either. i asked around about memory foam, if it was worth it, should i get the dense expensive ones, and how bout mattresses. i got a lot of suggestions and the one i decided to follow was the costco route. costco is selling memory foam pillows, mattresses, and mattress toppers. since i needed to goto costco anyway, i decided to check it out. ended up getting a memory foam pillow and mattress topper. but as people warned me, the feeling is so good, you don't want to get outta bed in the morning. hehe. i recall the first time i slept on memory foam. it was @ brookstone, and in less than 5 mins, i had actually fallen asleep. not sure if it was because i was tired or if it was just good, but i've gotta say, memory foam is nice to sleep on.

so mike's coming up to seattle this sunday. remember the sword i mention i was going to get? welp, he's bring it up for me. w00t! i'm a bit scared now. frank was saying he upgraded the sword to a paul chen because the one he got was still back-ordered and now i need to find a sword glove or else i might get seriously hurt. hmmmmm. but either way, i'm super excited that mike's visiting seattle.

so it's been another week at work. quite tiring. met up with cdmcc several times, once to catch a movie: Broken Flowers and the other time to purchase a mattress @ costco home. broken flowers was an interesting movie. ***SPOILERS AHEAD*** at first i wasn't too happy about the ending since it didn't solve the mystery, but the more i thought about it, it gave us a chance to think about who the real culprit is. on our way home, cdmcc and i brainstormed about all the different possibilites and eliminations. when we narrowed it down to one person, we remember a new clue that changed our perspective completely. ***END OF SPOILERS*** as for mattress buying, it was cdmcc's turn. as you may have read above, i got the memory foam mattress topper and my mattresses was shipped from home. i had no idea mattresses were so expensive. cdmcc left costco home spending over $1000. i thought mattresses costed around $300. guess i was wrong. very wrong. then again, he did sorta get the best sealy costco offered. the cheapest one was however still in the $600 range.

at work, i finally learnt how to script in windows writing visual basic scripts (vbs) and utilizing the WScript agent. all scripting languages are neat. before i did most of my scripting stuff in perl or php, but neither were installed on my work machines, so i had to use vbscripts which aren't too bad, still pretty powerful. which reminds me, a friend of mine actually ran a vbs virus one time and got all her mp3s replaced by that vbscript. which sucked of course, but the reason why she ran the vbs file was because she received it from a church buddy and thought the extension vbs stood for virtual bible service. unfortunately the most i could do for her was clean her system, but all her mp3s were gone...

there was a thread at work talking about what to do when you have family emergencies (like death in the family) and need to fly back immediately but don't want to be get slaughtered by airfares. apparently there's most airlines have a rule to help those in this situation: Family emergencies - bereavement fares. In times of emergency when you have to fly for a family funeral, or to see a terminally ill relative, shopping around for airfares is probably the last thing you want to think about. Many airlines have an answer for this - the bereavement fare, or compassionate fare, which is offered to family members traveling for a death in the family, or imminent death.

was watching family guy today and saw a scene i thought chris was really cute in and ungsunghero thought was lol hilarious: Take On Me. i originally made a flash file that was perfect quality but that was 100megs. so i shrunk it to 2 for you guys. enjoy!

for those who travel southwest, i've got good news on rapidrewards. 1st of all, rapidreward credits now last 24months instead of 12months as before. also, there is no longer any blackout dates, so you can fly during christmas, new years, thanksgiving, etc!

thanks to belldandy for donating this article: S.Korean man dies after 50 hours of computer games and S. Korean man dies after 50 hours of computer games. despite having a heart condition, this guy was too serious about gaming. what a sad way to be remembered for.

got this video from /. : interview with scott richter. hilarious interview w/ scott richter (high volume email deployer aka big time spammer) by the daily show.

got this article from yahoo: 3 Wives Greet British Man After Surgery. Some people bring flowers. But when Melvyn Reed's three wives showed up to visit him at the hospital, they brought the unexpected end to his years as a bigamist. what a heist! you'd wonder how'd he keep it up so long. either he's just too slick, or his wives are too *cough*

got this article from yahoo: Thieves steal $68 mln in biggest Brazil bank heist which was followed by Bank robbery suspects nabbed with new cars. "It's something you see in the movies. They dug a tunnel ... that goes underneath two (city) blocks. They've been digging for three months," police investigator Francisco Queiroga told Reuters by telephone. totally reminds me of ocean's eleven.

got this article from yahoo: Counterfeit Bill Bears Wrong Face Bartender Brandy Tuczynski knew the $100 bill a customer gave her was fake when she held it up to the light and saw Abraham Lincoln's face instead of Benjamin Franklin's on the watermark. i wonder if the abraham counterfeits were cheaper to make, or if some crooks just messed up.

got this article from yahoo: Sure, I was speeding, officer -- I'm insured!. Tired of parking fines and speeding tickets? A Swedish company offers insurance against both, claiming to be the first in the field. i wonder how this works... do they fight your legal battles? or do they pay off your tickets when u get in trouble? or is there some loophole that you can be insured against speeding violations?

got this article from yahoo: 'Fat' jibe leaves band not feeling so magic. Newspapers reported that in rehearsals Bacon introduced the band by saying: "What do you get when you put two brothers and sisters in a band? A big fat melting pot of talent." would you take that as a compliment or insult? i thought it was a pretty nice comment... but i guess people can interpret it differently.

got this article from yahoo: Potty-mouthed? New English words are just lush. just thought it was kewl that 'phishing' (fraudulently sending emails purporting to be from reputable firms to get individuals to reveal personal details) is added to the oxford dictionary.

got this article from yahoo: Desperate Teens Sell Themselves on EBay. article's not too interesting besides the fact they got screwed, but i was thinking, if yahoo had reported them earlier, they'd definitely got a lot more votes. what they lack was advertisement.

got this article from yahoo: Nev. Man Admits Lying About 'Wonka' Role. "It was not for fame or glory," said Dame, 57. "I never made a profit or earned a financial gain from this." ... Parts for little actors were rare. His agent told him to "pad" his resume with an acting credit from Mel Stuart's 1971 film "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory," he said. doesn't those 2 sentences contradict each other? in short, this guy impostered an oompa loompa from charlie and the chocolate factory (original movie). "There were only 10 original Oompa Loompas," Goff of England wrote in an e-mail to two Gazette-Journal reporters. "Six English guys, one English girl, one Turkish, one Maltese and one German. Unfortunately, six of them are now dead. And the girl is in a retirement home here in England. She is very old and now blind so I do like to keep her privacy. All are in poor health. I hope you understand."

pya images will probably resume tomorrow.

thought of the day: i was watching the trailer for Little Manhattan and it brought me back to thinking (yes, you're right, but it also got me thinking of) one of detective conan's movies. i think it was movie #7 - crossroad in the ancient capital, where hattori heiji (conan's rival, if you can even call him that) is still in love with his first crush, however, he only caught a glimpse of her and has never seen her again. he has a lifelong female friend that grew up with him and she secretly has a crush on him. heiji knows that, and that girl knows heiji still likes that one-glimpse girl because when he was interviewed on what mysteries he has yet to solve, and he said it was to find the identity of his 1st true love. don't want to ruin the ending for you guys, but long story short, i think 1st loves/crushes do have ever-lasting effects, for guys and girls. it's probably our 1st experience of feeling our heart so full and if it was a 1st, it probably also meant our hearts being shattered somewhere down the line, and as you know, the 1st fall always hurts the most and the subsequent ones we've learnt to lighten the fall.

what grinds my gears: when people mess with my desktop. that means both my computer and the stuff literally on my desk.

so i've successfully moved most of my stuff over to my new apartment. only left 2 days worth of clothese behind along with my laptop, external hdd, pikachu, toiletries, and sever other items that i need. move was rather quick, since most of my stuff are still in storage which will be delivered on tuesday. only took 2 trips by myself. i realized i had a bunch of stuff to buy now like shower curtains. oh well. time to use those 20% off @ bed, bath, and beyond coupons i keep on getting ;p
